So you’re standing in the hot center of the dancefloor at a bar you used to walk by when you were sixteen and mostly just got high in underground parking lots and basements vacated by parents vacationing in sunny old colonial Williamsburg, and this girl who when hanging out with friends you used to refer to by this terrible nickname because she was dating your friend and you weren’t dating anyone and that made you sad and angry says “how’ve you been!” and you want to say “oh man that is an incredibly complex question, first off we haven’t talked in four years and in that time I’ve literally ran naked in fields, I’ve made an idiot of myself in at least sixteen separate basements, I’ve met a dude who I mean I wouldn’t kill for but I’m saying this right now I’d give him a kidney because I have two, I haven’t had my heart broken but I’ve known people who have and also I’ve listened to a lot of songs about heartbreak sooooo like I have a pretty good idea what it feels like, other stuff happened too but I can’t really remember it” but that song that goes ‘shots shots shot shots’ is playing very loudly and you were/are very drunk so all you say is “I’ve been better.”
